only goal in the 2-1 defeat. Hugh Wiltshire's report of the
game is on our News page HERE
Training has resumed at Cliff Park following the Summer break

Dennis
Eke
Two
weeks before the start of the new Hockey season Gorleston
HC were shocked to hear that their regular goalkeeper for
the past 3 seasons had collapsed and died while playing tennis.
57 year old Dennis Eke joined Gorleston from Norfolk Nomads
HC in 2002 when the Club were at a low point in League Division
6 NE. His knowledge of the game coupled with safe hands and
kicking ability behind a then inexperienced defence saw Gorleston
achieve promotion in his first year. As the youngsters matured
and Gorleston welcomed back Jamie Higginbotham the confidence
of Gorleston grew to such an extent that two years later they
became champions of Division 5 NE without conceding a single
League game.
Towards the end of last season Dennis aggravated a shoulder
injury but only the day before he died he was back playing
in goal in a mixed 11 friendly at Pinebanks, Norwich and was
looking forward to the season ahead.
Dennis who was a keen sportsman playing cricket and tennis
for his home village of Cringleford leaves a widow, Astra,
and one son Gavin. He will be badly missed by Gorleston HC,
his many former teammates and sporting colleagues.

Apologies - J Dawson T Thomas B Goodman M Berry D Eke and T Woodrow

Minutes of previous AGM 8th June 2005 taken as
read. No matters arising.
2 Chairman's Report. HW welcomed those present
and congratulated the team on another reasonably successful season
particularly after the disappointing start to the campaign when
both Captain and Vice Captain were absent through injury. He thanked
in particular the 7 or 8 regulars for their efforts during that
difficult time and then went on to outline the new single system
for the game being proposed by England Hockey which he felt could
have an adverse effect on us if Great Yarmouth were not to become
a local development centre. It was already clear that youngsters
under 16 were not going to be allowed to play League hockey and
that in the past was primarily from where we drew our support. Clubs
training juniors would have to be accredited and we would have to
decide soon whether to go down this route or simply rely on picking
up older players
3 Captain's Report. JH reviewed the playing season
2005/6 when the Club finished 6th in Div 4 NE. Although home form
had been magnificent it was unacceptable to play away from home
at less than full strength as had happened on several occasions
and some 15 points had been lost in this way. Next season we would
target 5th in the league and would need extra players. Training
was important and needed to be looked at.
4 Treasurers Report. In the absence of TT HW went
through the 2005 Accounts which were approved as attached. Confirmed
the funds were healthy and thanks to our sponsors HKBWiltshires
and the Albion for shirts and tracksuits. Also Dennis Eke for donating
his match fees overpayment.

15/05/06
- I
have posted the revised League Table which is now to be found on
the East Hockey Site. There is no explanation for the revision and
exclusion of all games, points and goals scored for/against UEA
3, Holt Harlequins 2 and Lowestoft Railway 2. The revised League
shows Gorleston finishing in 6th position and although Lowestoft
Town are still Champions unlucky IES 2 now miss out on promotion.
I have left the original table in place for those who would like
to compare the two. Note that I have NOT adjusted our goal scoring
table as a result of the League adjustments.
19/04/06
- The
Club's financial year ends on 30/04/06 and the AGM will take place
earlier this year in order to review player availability for next
season. More details will be posted as soon as we have them.
Regarding player availability Gorleston are always on the lookout
for potential new players (or old boys returning to the area) -
if you would like to know more please contact the
webmaster
15/04/06
- Due
to the unavailability of key players Gorleston were forced to cancel
the last match of the season and have therefore ceded the 3 points
to North Walsham.
The League 4 NE Champions are Lowestoft Town and Gorleston finish
in 7th position - very respectable especially in view of the injury
problems suffered throughout the season. The team can take heart
that they had several excellent results, particularly at home, one
of which was against the champions Lowestoft Town.
10/04/06
- Fixture
Update: The last match of the season takes place this Saturday
15th April against North Walsham Second XI. As our own
pitch is unavailable we will be playing this 'home' game at the
UEA Sportspark - pushback at 1.00 pm.
01/04/06
- An
exciting home game saw Gorleston undeservedly go down 3-4 to Harleston
Magpies V this weekend in the penultimate game of the season, with
Tom Wiltshire, Russ Crawford and Jamie Higginbotham all getting
on the scoresheet. Report HERE.
25/03/06
- Gorleston
remain 6th in the League for now despite losing today's away fixture
UEA III. Jamie Higginbotham scored Gorleston's only goal - read
a full report HERE. Note the match
times of the season's two final fixtures - both to be played
at home.
18/03/06
- Another
extremely impressive home win from Gorleston against a team above
us in the League, Norwich City III. Special congratulations go to
Russ Crawford who scored his first hattrick for the Club in the
4-1 victory. Report HERE.
10/03/06
- Gorlestron
gained a valuable away point in a 1-1 draw against Harleston Magpies
V with Jamie Higginbotham scoring late in the game. Report HERE.
04/03/06
- Today's
home fixture has been cancelled because of a frozen pitch - the
game will now be played on one of the slipdates, probably 08/04/06.
25/02/06
- Gorleston's
mid-season revival suffered a (hopefully temporary) setback away
against League 4NE leaders Lowestoft Town I who made the most of
Gorleston's tiredness late in the game to win 4-0. Report HERE.
18/02/06
- Gorleston's
winning run continues with an excellent win against Holt's second
team. Goals from Tom Wiltshire (2) and Russ Crawford. Report HERE.
11/02/06
- A
fine away win at Newmarket with goals from Tom Wiltshire and Jamie
Higginbotham means that Gorleston are now 6th in the League. Report
HERE.
08/02/06
-
The time for this Saturday's game (11/02/06) at Newmarket is now
confirmed - meet at the Albion at 10.00 am. The East Hockey site's
Div 4 NE League Table is now fully updated.
04/02/06
- An
excellent 6-0 home win for Gorleston against a weakened Bury III
team which unfortunately fielded only 9 players. Goals from Tom
Wiltshire (2), Jamie Higginbotham, Russ Crawford, Mark Vaudin and
Dale Kemp. Jamie's Report HERE.
Note that the East Hockey site's League table does not include our
2-1 win over Lowestoft: we understand this should be put right soon.
Gorleston do therefore in fact have 19 points from 14 games played
and not 16 from 13 as shown.
28/01/06
- A
close fought game saw Gorleston hold league leaders IES II to a
2-2 draw at home, Liam Payne scoring both of Gorleston's goals.
Report is HERE.
21/01/06
- This
was technically an away fixture but due to Lowestoft's being unable
to host a game, it was played at Cliff Park. On familiar territory
and fielding a strong team Gorleston came away winners with Russ
Crawford and Martin Vaudin scoring for the Tangerines. Report HERE.
19/01/06
- The
first games of the New Year saw Gorleston experience mixed fortunes
against two Holt teams - on the 7th Gorleston were well and truly
beaten 10-2 by a powerful Holt Second Eleven. However in last week's
home game Gorleston were worthy winners 3-2 against the league leaders
Holt I, and as a result are now 8th in the league table. Reports
HERE.
17/12/05
-
With the game against Harleston Magpies V being abandoned due to
bad weather Gorleston's next fixture will be in the New Year. In
the meantime best wishes for Christmas to all. Please note there
is no training over Christmas as the Cliff Park
Community Pitch is unavailable so don't eat too many mince pies
...
10/12/05
-
Gorleston ran out 1-0 winners at home to UEA III with Jamie scoring
the only goal from a short corner. Report HERE.
Players
please note that both Christmas slipdates have been filled as follows:
17/12/05 - Harleston Magpies V at home - 14.30; 07/01/06
- Holt Harlequins II away at 16.30 (Greshams).
03/12/05
-
Gorleston began well away from home against Norwich City III this
weekend in a match which saw the welcome return from injury of Jamie
Higginbotham and Tom Wiltshire. Jamie celebrated with two goals
but Gorleston unfortunately went down 4-3 after leading for most
of the game. Read his report HERE.
This week the team received the unwelcome news that following
his injury in last week's game against Harleston Magpies Simon Cottingham
is to resign from the team and retire from the game. I'm sure that
we would all like to wish Simon a speedy recovery and thank him
for all his hard work for the team both on and off the field.
28/11/05
-
Saturday's home game against Harleston Magpies V was unfortunately
abandoned following a serious injury to Simon Cottingham. Both teams
have agreed the match will be replayed at a later date.
19/11/05
- Bad luck for Gorleston as Jamie Higginbotham's doctor instructs
him not to play. This luck is compounded by an away loss at North
Walsham. Match report HERE. Well done
to Martin on his first two league goals of this season.
12/11/05
- The
welcome to new player Russ Crawford and a return from injury by
captain Jamie Higginbotham sees a second successive win against
League high fliers Lowestoft Town. Read Jamie's report of the 3-1
win HERE. Last week's match against
Holt Harlequins II has been slipdated to December after the home
side were unable to provide a pitch before 4 pm.
29/10/05
- Gorleston's
run of bad luck has been halted by a home win against Newmarket.
Jamie's report is HERE
22/10/05
- Gorleston
again suffered from a shortage of players but fortunately the opposition
Bury were able to lend us 3 spare players so that the match could
take place. Despite a goal from Liam Payne, Gorleston lost 3-1.
Hugh Wiltshire's match report is HERE.
15/10/05
- Unfortunately due to pressing injury problems and the
absence of key players generally, the game against IES had to be
cancelled. As this was done at short notice Gorleston unfortunately
paid a 3 point penalty leaving them at the foot of the League.
11/10/05
- Gorleston played host to Lowestoft Railways II and unfortunately
went down 0-3. There are more injury problems as stand-in captain
Tom Wiltshire is laid low with a back problem. Read Hugh Wiltshire's
report HERE
06/10/05
- Gorleston's first game of the new league season away
against a strong Holt team ends in defeat which is made worse as
team captain Jamie suffers a serious foot injury - read his report
HERE

ended in defeat - read Jamie's report of this closely fought battle
HERE

Norfolk Nomads ended in Gorleston's first defeat since the 2003-2004
season. The final score was 3-2 and Jamie's report will follow.
In other news, due to an outbreak of spamming we have deleted the
Forum facility.
11/09/05 - The new season approaches and results
and fixtures have been updated - thank you to Simon Cottingham who
replaces Tom as fixtures secretary this season. In the meantime
Jamie has sent reports of the summer friendlies against Cranes,
North Walsham, Norwich City III and II - you can read them all HERE

season several summer and pre-season friendlies have been arranged:
