Gorleston Hockey Club - Season 2007/08 - Division 4 NE

Position in League Division 4NE: 2nd

05/04/08: A closely fought contest against local rivals Lowestoft Railway ended honours even meaning Gorleston can no longer win the League. Read Hugh's Match Report here. Gorleston must now beat Watton at home on Saturday to secure promotion!

01/04/08: Gorleston climb to second place in the league after back to back wins over the two relegated sides UEA III and Felixstowe II. This season is proving to be the most closely fought and exciting in many years as it draws to its close - if they win their last two games, Gorleston will be crowned Champions. Read Hugh's match Reports here.

Congratulations must go to Peter Jones on his 600th goal for the Club against UEA III!

08/03/08: Another six-goal win for Gorleston, this time on their travels, Holt Harlequins being the unlucky recipients. Read Hugh's match Report here.

01/03/08: Gorleston return to winning ways with a fine home display against Pelicans. Read Hugh's Match Report here.

Congratulations to Jason Austin and Malcolm Berry on passing the theory section of the Level 1 Umpire's Exam, Jason scoring an incredible 98%!

23/02/08: Gorleston's climb towards promotion is halted by league leaders Ipswich IV. Read Hugh's Match Report here.

26/01/08: The team's winning run continues with a strong away performance at Ipswich against Crane - read Hugh's Match Report here. Note that the Crane team did not report the result by the usual deadline meaning the League Table does not yet show us in second position.

19/01/08: After the Christmas Break Gorleston have moved quickly into top gear with three successive wins. Read about the team's two friendlies against Norwich City III and Norfolk Nomads here. Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held at ‘The Albion’ Public House on Tuesday 3rd July 2007.
Present:John Dawson, Hugh Wiltshire, Tim Thomas, Russ Crawford, Mark Vaudin, Martin Vaudin, Jason Austin, Kevin Macdonald, Peter Jones, Liam Payne, Stuart Sahota
Apologies Received:Ben Goodman, Tim Mobbs, Nick Mobbs
1. Minutes of the previous AGM
These were accepted without alteration. There were no matters arising.
2. Chairman’s Report (Hugh Wiltshire)
On the Pitch – Congratulation to the team on finishing 5th in the League, with 43 points. The spirit of the team was excellent in the later part of the season
Administration – Caused a few problems during the season and culminated in Jamie standing down as Captain, citing his reasons as; the stress of being Captain, subbing players during games and a failure to communicate with some players. This is something that we must look at for next season.
Umpiring – Hugh in 68 in January and cannot continue to Umpire forever, so the Club must look for replacements. The Club is supposed to have two qualified Umpires (NOTE: subsequently, the League has demanded these are identified to the HUA and we will forfeit games if using an unregistered Umpire). A number of Players did their theory test a couple of years ago, however these passes lapse after 18 months. We need to have 4 or 5 players qualify as Umpires during the coming season.
Cliff Park – The Astro is being replaced over the summer and should be ready for 01 September 2007. All home games have been booked for a 14:30 start.
Next Season – will be equally difficult with the teams in the League.
3. Captain’s Report (Kev MacDonald)
Kev extended his thanks to Hugh for all his help during the season.
The Club aimed to finish 5th in the League and achieved this. There was a weak point in the middle of the season and the team rallied strongly to complete a strong finish.
We will need to work on our overall level of fitness next season and maintain the same team spirit.
4. Treasurer’s Report (Tim Thomas)
Tim Thomas presented the Receipt & Payment accounts for the year ending 04 April 2007. Total funds in the current account amount to £1582.00. Membership and Subscription fees are to remain unchanged.
The meeting discussed kit that is needed for the coming season, including a set of Goalkeepers gloves (to match the existing kit) and a new set of shirts. Hugh will talk to HSB Wiltshire about sponsorship and Tim will discuss sponsorship with his business partner. Jason Austin will liaise with Tim Mobbs about the supply of the shirts, socks and shorts. The meeting agreed to change the Club sock colour to black, to ensure a uniform shade was maintained.
